CandorBrief Plugin Terms of Use
For CandorBrief Free and CandorBrief Pro
Last updated: September 27, 2026
Overview
These Terms of Use govern your installation and use of the CandorBrief WordPress plugin (“CandorBrief,” “the Plugin”), in either its Free or Pro edition, made available by HighTechDad (“we,” “us,” “our”).
By downloading, installing, or activating CandorBrief, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Plugin.
These Terms cover your use of the plugin software. If you purchased CandorBrief Pro, your purchase transaction itself is also governed by the Site Terms & Conditions. How CandorBrief handles data on your WordPress site is covered separately by the Plugin Privacy Policy.
1. What CandorBrief Is
CandorBrief helps a professional publish a focused, candidate-controlled brief for hiring managers on their own WordPress site. It assembles copy-only prompts from candidate-approved public content for a visitor to run in an AI tool of the visitor’s own choosing.
CandorBrief is AI-free. It does not call any AI service (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or otherwise) from within WordPress, does not analyze or score candidates, and does not make hiring recommendations. See Section 5 for the full disclaimer around copied prompts and third-party AI behavior.
2. License Grant
Subject to these Terms:
- CandorBrief Free is licensed to you, free of charge, for use on any number of your own WordPress sites.
- CandorBrief Pro is licensed to you, upon a valid purchase and active license (see Site Terms & Conditions), for use on the number of production WordPress sites your license permits (one, unless otherwise stated at purchase).
In both cases, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install, activate, and use CandorBrief on WordPress sites you own or administer, for your own professional purposes or on behalf of a client. You may not resell, sublicense, or redistribute CandorBrief (in whole or modified form) as your own product.
GPL note. If CandorBrief, or any portion of it, is distributed through the WordPress.org plugin directory, that distribution requires the distributed PHP code to be licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) or a GPL-compatible license. Where that requirement applies, the GPL (or GPL-compatible license) governs the affected code, and nothing in this section restricts rights the GPL grants you over that code. This section otherwise governs use of CandorBrief as we distribute it directly (for example, through candorbrief.com).
3. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- use CandorBrief to publish false, defamatory, or knowingly misleading professional information
- use CandorBrief’s Resume/CV import or profile tools to collect or publish another person’s private information without their consent
- attempt to bypass, disable, or interfere with CandorBrief’s privacy or visibility controls in a way that exposes content a candidate marked private
- for CandorBrief Pro: circumvent, reverse engineer, or attempt to defeat the license activation/verification system, or share your license key with anyone not authorized under your license
- use CandorBrief in a way that violates applicable law, including data protection, employment, or anti-discrimination law in your jurisdiction
4. Your WordPress Site, Content, and Responsibilities
CandorBrief is software that you choose to install on a WordPress site you own or administer. You control that site’s hosting, WordPress core installation, themes, plugins, administrator accounts, email delivery, security configuration, backups, and public content. HighTechDad does not host, operate, monitor, administer, secure, back up, or have access to your WordPress site or the data it stores, except for the limited Pro licensing and manual release-check requests described in the Plugin Privacy Policy and Site Privacy Policy.
You are solely responsible for:
- the accuracy, truthfulness, legality, and permissions for content you publish through CandorBrief
- obtaining any consent required for candidate information, visitor contact information, emails, cookies, or other data your site collects or processes
- privacy notices, retention practices, security measures, backups, hosting, and compliance with data-protection, employment, anti-discrimination, accessibility, and other laws that apply to your site or use of the Plugin
- visitor requests, spam, suspected abuse, security incidents, unauthorized access, data loss, and breaches involving your site
CandorBrief’s privacy, visibility, verification, rate-limit, and access controls can help you operate your site. They do not guarantee legal compliance, prevent every spam or malicious request, or secure a WordPress environment that HighTechDad does not control.
5. Prompt Guardrails Are Advisory Only
CandorBrief’s hiring-manager prompts include built-in source-boundary and evidence-ledger instructions intended to keep a visitor’s copied prompt grounded in the candidate’s actual public content, and to discourage requests for final hiring recommendations or protected-characteristic inferences.
These guardrails are instructions embedded in the copied text, not a technical enforcement mechanism. Once a visitor copies a prompt into their own AI tool, CandorBrief has no ability to monitor, verify, or control what that AI tool actually does with it. We make no representation or warranty that any third-party AI tool will follow these instructions, and we are not responsible for output produced by a third-party AI tool from a CandorBrief-generated prompt.
6. CandorBrief Pro: License Terms
If you purchased CandorBrief Pro:
- Your license entitles you to activate and use CandorBrief Pro on the number of production sites stated at purchase (one, by default).
- Your license does not expire by default, but remains subject to revocation for refund, fraud, or violation of these Terms, as described in the Site Terms & Conditions.
- If your license is revoked or becomes unverifiable, CandorBrief Pro fails safe: Pro-only features become unavailable, but your existing Pro data is retained on your site and is not deleted or rewritten.
- Refunds are handled at our discretion, case-by-case, as described in the Site Terms & Conditions. This document does not create any separate or additional refund right.
7. Updates and Support
We may release updates to CandorBrief Free and Pro from time to time. CandorBrief does not currently auto-install updates; you choose when to download and apply a new version. We do not guarantee that any particular version of CandorBrief will remain supported indefinitely, or that updates will always be free, though we intend for Pro purchasers’ existing perpetual license to continue working with the version they’re entitled to even if future updates require a separate arrangement.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
CANDORBRIEF IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT CANDORBRIEF WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR COMPATIBLE WITH EVERY WORDPRESS CONFIGURATION, HOSTING ENVIRONMENT, THEME, THIRD-PARTY PLUGIN, EMAIL PROVIDER, OR NETWORK. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT CANDORBRIEF WILL PREVENT SPAM, MALICIOUS ACTIVITY, UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, SECURITY INCIDENTS, OR DATA LOSS ON A CUSTOMER’S SITE. WE MAKE NO WARRANTY ABOUT THE OUTCOME OF ANY HIRING PROCESS, RECRUITER RESPONSE, OR THIRD-PARTY AI OUTPUT PRODUCED FROM A CANDORBRIEF-GENERATED PROMPT.
9. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, HIGHTECHDAD WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF CANDORBRIEF, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR YOUR CANDORBRIEF LICENSE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE (OR, FOR CANDORBRIEF FREE, ZERO).
Without limiting the preceding paragraph, HighTechDad is not responsible for claims, losses, disclosures, or damage arising from a customer’s hosting, WordPress configuration, theme, other plugins, administrator accounts, content choices, visitor communications, security practices, backups, or third-party services, except to the extent required by applicable law.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers or liability limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold HighTechDad harmless from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of CandorBrief in violation of these Terms, or content you publish using CandorBrief that violates the rights of a third party or applicable law.
11. Termination
We may terminate your license to use CandorBrief, or (for Pro) revoke your license key, if you materially violate these Terms. You may stop using CandorBrief at any time by deactivating and, if you choose, uninstalling the plugin. See the Plugin Privacy Policy for what happens to your data if you uninstall.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to HighTechDad’s place of operation in the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, to the extent permitted by applicable law. Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable consumer protection rights you may have under the law of your own country or state of residence.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as CandorBrief’s features change. Material changes will be reflected here and in the plugin’s changelog. Continuing to use CandorBrief after an update to these Terms means you accept the revised Terms.
